VIOLET

“One of my other authors wrote a chapter about a woman slipping her husband a roofie so he would get her pregnant before he got his vasectomy. I can call her and see if she researched any specific drugs for that,” Annie, my editor who was calling from Montana, suggested.

“And then what? I go to my family doctor and ask him for something like it?”

“Well, no. I’ve got a nephew that I’m almost positive is a street pharmacist and I bet he’d even hook me up with a discount.”

“A street pharmacist? Really?”

“It sounds so much nicer than saying that my nephew is a drug dealing asshole who shames the family,” Annie laughed. “Too much? Maybe I could call him an Altered Reality Salesman.”

“I’m not going to drug Angus,” I told her firmly. “I think I’ve been completely obvious about what I want other than greeting him at his front door wearing nothing but a trench coat and stripper heels. The ball is in his court now.”

“The balls and the racket are in his court, honey, but I can send you a trench coat if you need one,” Annie chuckled. “Your writing has been on point lately, so I feel like this tension between the two of you is doing good things. Maybe you should try and resist for a while longer until you’ve finished this next book in the series.”

“Really?” I scoffed. “This coming from the woman who is holed up in the middle of a fucking blizzard with her mountain man husband and is occasionally too busy getting some afternoon delight to answer my frantic calls about work.”

“Your calls are unnecessarily frantic. The readers love you and they beg for more.” Annie huffed out a breath, “That alone makes me worry about the future of mankind, but anyway, to each their own. Seduce him, Violet. Rub his shoulders and get him relaxed and then rub his manly equipment and get him worked up. Get it over with. The first time is going to suck anyway, might as well jump off the bridge so you can learn to swim later.”

“Wow. Thanks for the pep talk,” I groaned. “I’m here anyway, so I have to let you go.”

Once Annie said her goodbyes, I flipped my phone closed and put the car in park. I looked around the fenced-in area hoping to spot Angus. I didn’t see him, but I did see groups of men working with different equipment, all of them wearing tool belts and swaggering around the lot.

Okay, maybe they weren’t swaggering. I could be imagining that part. For the most part, as long as I didn’t look up at their faces, the denim jeans and work boots made quite a fine picture. Some of the men were smoking hot, but a few other others didn’t really fit my type.

As I glanced around, I saw Angus coming my way. His beard was caught up in a rubber band with other bands moving down toward the end of it. His hair was pulled back and he had a hard hat on his head.
